Sweet Scrapbook Pages

 I am so jealous of my cousin (a full-time physician) who has three children (including twins!) and has beautiful scrapbooks that she is current with!  I do take photos but I never print them out!  Still loving the How Fast Time Flies scrapbook pages, but I have really slacked  for like the past 9 years.  So imagine my surprise when I logged into my MyPublisher account and found 29 pages I designed but never ordered.  And they are having a 50-75% off sale!!  

So I placed my order and I feel like a good mom for now.  Mary Fowler now has her first two years documented "prett-ily" so that makes 2 down, 7 to go.  And poor Davis is 0 for 6.

Here are a few of the pages- I like how they have some cute design aspects but nothing too fussy or country-ish.  And the price is right- normally $5.50 per page but with the sale $2.75

Now I'm on the hunt for good quality books to hold them.  I had planned on using the Felicity albums from Exposures but I now see mixed reviews about their quality- and they are not cheap.

Crepes and Strawberry Peach Soda


After spending a week and a half with family at the lake and visiting as many friends in Roanoke as we could, Davis and Mary Fowler were excited to come home and invite two of their neighborhood friends over for a Kid's Choice Dinner.

While on vacation, we watched an episode of my favorite, Giada at Home, so Mary Fowler chose Giada's crepes and Davis chose the Strawberry Peach Soda.  

We made the crepes savory with cheese and pepperoni and I highly recommend her recipe!  I had heard that crepes can be finicky but these were beautiful and so easy!

Strawberry Peach Soda

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) frozen and thawed peaches (preferably with no sugar added) or 2 fresh peaches, peeled and pitted
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) frozen (preferably with no sugar added) and thawed or fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from 1 large lemon)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (from1/2 large lemon)
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • Ice
In a small saucepan, bring the water and sugar to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved, 2 to 3 minutes. Set aside to cool for 20 minutes.
In a blender, combine the cooled syrup, peaches, strawberries, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Blend until smooth. Add the sparkling water and pour into an ice-filled pitcher.


  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 10 cubes
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup strawberry or raspberry jam
  • 1/2 cup (2 ounces) fresh blueberries
  • Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
In a blender, combine the eggs, milk, flour, sugar and salt. Blend until the mixture forms a smooth batter.
Heat a 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Melt 1 cube of butter in the pan. Add 1/4 cup of batter and quickly tilt the pan to form an even coating of batter on the bottom of the pan. Cook for 1 minute, until set and slightly browned. Using a heat-resistant spatula, carefully loosen the sides and gently flip the crepe over. Cook for 1 minute. Repeat with the remaining batter and butter, stacking the crepes on top of each other on a plate as they are ready. You should have 8 or 9 crepes total.
Add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to each crepe and, using the back of a spoon, spread evenly over the crepes, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Spread 2 teaspoons of jam over the peanut butter. Line 5 to 6 blueberries along the center of each crepe. Fold the crepe in half over the blueberries. Fold the two ends inward and continue to roll into a tube shape. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
Cut each crepe in half horizontally and arrange on a platter. Dust with confectioners' sugar.

We spent July 4th at the beach with friends and made some great memories!  Bike rides at night and the fireworks on the beach were definitely highlights.  During the day, it was SO hot, disgustingly hot.  I joked that my girlfriend took me on a Bikram (Hot Yoga) Walk one day.

My only regret is not preparing some special dishes like cheese slaw, ham biscuits, or a lasagna.  My aunt Debbie always brings a ham to the beach.  They'll have a ham dinner when they arrive the first night and then ham sandwiches/biscuits the rest of the week.

One of my girlfriends always brings frozen, marinated chicken breasts (for grilling) and an artichoke rice dish for the first night.  I once brought a cajun shrimp and grits dish from a local caterer.  What special recipes do you take?

This trip, I just brought boring groceries for breakfast, lunch, and snacks/drinks for the beach.  But I did bake some cookies, and most importantly, my favorite summer adult drink ingredients (see recipe below)!  My brother in law is the drink master and and this is an easier version of his awesome mojito.

My dad taught me to make his gin & tonic and making this drink reminds me every time of his most important advice: lots of ice!

Fill a glass with ice
1/2 fresh lime, sqeezed
Pour 1/4 glass Marti's Rum
Fill the rest of the glass with a lemon lime soda or seltzer 
(I use Diet Sierra Mist)

The title may sound a little dramatic... but, then again, we are talking about adolescent daughters and their mothers!  Ha!

On one of our trips to the library this little book, recommended by Ann Landers, caught my eye and it is one I'm going to have to buy.  (I've already renewed it once)

I am reading it in small doses as it is still pretty early for me, and I have about 3 books I'm reading right now but each page has so much helpful insight!  I love it and I will highly recommend it to all of my friends with daughters.

I love that she explains this phase as the time when a daughter is trying to become her own individual self, while usually the mother is trying to mold her a certain way.

I also love that she tells us about her countless interviews with young girls so we can see things from their perspective.

Her chapter on dad's relationship with daughter was wonderful!  Sometimes well-meaning moms can serve as the translator between dad and daughter and she talks about the pros and cons of that.

I'm only about halfway through and already Mary Fowler and I have had some wonderful, casual conversations... I feel so much more confident that she feels comfortable talking to me.

Next up, my friend just finished NurtureShock.  So I look forward to borrowing that!


Thank Goodness for Grandma!


Davis has been going to a little camp my cousin's children are putting on down the street and having a blast!  Yesterday he came home with paint all over his white shirt and I was sure it was washable paint.

But when I realized it wasn't, and that my usual laundry stain remover hadn't worked at all, I reached for this, which someone had recommended as the only red wine remover.

I followed the directions and it worked like a charm!  Environmentally friendly, no chlorine or phosphates.

Fun with Grandma

This week can be summarized by tornados, power outages, and fun.. oh my!

  • Adam's mom came to visit and the kids were excited to take her to the pool...
  • On one of our visits, a surprise tornado touched down so we moved to safety in the underground pump rooms.  It was pretty "exciting."
  • We had one fun night of playing games/cards by candlelight, but when the power still wasn't on the next day, we decided to head to Busch Gardens for the day.
  • It was perfect!  His mom loved  it... Beautiful weather, happy kids, happy parents.
  • Grandma loves gelato so we enjoyed taste-testing with her!
