Project Life

One of my favorite spreads so far.  Loving all the bright colors!  Snow days really do provide such great lighting- which is the key to pretty photos.  This particular day, I forgot to adjust my settings so most of the pictures are "blown out" which means too bright.  But I am happy to have some of my neighborhood moms in a picture.  Moms hardly ever get their picture taken.


Project Life

 I think I've found my stride.  It takes me almost no time at all to get my pictures plugged in and add text.  We'll see how it goes once I start my fun part-time job this week, but I am happy for now to have these pages on order from Persnickity Prints.

We are also starting our master bathroom remodel Wednesday so I need to take some "before" shots.  It is always so much fun to see how things change:)

Project Life Pages


Thank goodness my two favorite digital scrapbookers (Cathy Zielske and Ho Hum...) are doing their Project Life pages ALL digital this year.  I started losing steam last year when the pages just seemed too busy.  But now I have the CZ Photoshop templates with plenty of white space!!

It makes all the difference.   I did these two today and they make me happy!


My Favorite Dessert






I am an ooey, gooey dessert girl and from the moment I saw these on Ambitious Kitchen, I had to try them.  That was probably about a year ago and I have been making them ever since.  (You really should check out her pictures, they are WAY better than mine.)  

Sugar usually gives me painful gas upsets my tummy so a large part of why I love these is because they don't make me feel yuck afterwards.   Adam and the kids love them, too!  And they are very filling.

I got tired of googling her recipe so if I post it here, I know exactly where to find it.  Honestly, I should have it memorized by now... 



Definitely follow her instructions with sprinkling the chocolate chips on top.
I use plenty of chocolate chips, and I usually forget to add the salt at the end:)

Ingredients
  • Cooking Spray
  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup all natural almond butter or peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup or agave nectar (you can also use honey if you’re not vegan)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup vegan (or regular) semi sweet chocolate chips plus 2 tablespoons
  • sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and spray 8×8 inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a food processor, add all ingredients except chocolate chips and process until batter is smooth. Fold in 1/3 cup of chocolate chips.  Note: Batter will be thick and super delicious, so you could actually just eat it on it’s own!
  3. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top. (The batter may stick to your spatula, so I like to spray my spatula with nonstick cooking spray first.) Bake for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean and edges are a tiny bit brown. The batter may look underdone, but you don’t want them to dry out!
  4. Cool pan for 20 minutes on wire rack. Sprinkle with sea salt then cut into squares. Makes 16 blondies.
Notes
Adding an egg to the batter will make it more cake-like, but not vegan.
You can use your favorite nut butter, just make sure it’s all natural.
Feel free to add in other things according to your dietary needs like nuts, dried fruit, or other types of chocolate.

First Davis's school friend Cami on the cover of Virginia magazine and now Mary Fowler's school friend Claudia!  This is a smaller, Richmond magazine, but I love that it features a story about the Young House Love family, the Petersiks!

Daily Digital Journaling




I have always loved to write.  I have always needed to write... to get thoughts out of my head, to work through things, and to remember!  In the 3rd grade, my teacher, Mrs. Speigel, asked me what my favorite subject was and I told her writing stories.  Specifically, I loved to make up the names of the characters in my stories.  I wish I still enjoyed making up stories!  

In college, I had a a great creative writing teacher who introduced me to introspective writing and I find it so helpful.  Since finding Big Picture Classes, I get to combine my love of photography, documenting, writing, and graphic design!  

These pages are from Ali Edward's 31 Things class.  She gives us a topic (morning, read, spirit, conversation, etc.) and some very helpful questions and prompts.  Then we use Photoshop and make it look the way we like:)

I have said before that I hesitate even showing these because they are so personal, but I have gained so much by looking at other's work.  

Interestingly, after doing this for 7 days straight, I was amazed to see that with every single prompt, my mom's sister, my aunt Debbie, had appeared in my reflection writing.  I don't think I realized what a strong influence she was to me growing up!  So, I had the thought, I really need to write her a note and let her know!  

That day when Adam brought the mail in, she sent me a note with Martha Stewart article about Richmond!

After Party




There's just nothing better than party food!  I think I could survive on appetizers alone.  Last night for the Super Bowl we had two families over, just until halftime.  We aren't huge fans of any one pro football team, but Russell Wilson is from the prep school near our house and every article I read about him is just so inspiring!  He seems to be a truly great guy.  We actually ate dinner right next to him one night at Azzurro, but my dad had to tell me who he was:)

The great thing about Super Bowl parties is that I feel like I can serve "manly food" which doesn't necessarily have to be healthy:)


Adam made his bacon-wrapped jalapeƱos, the recipe that introduced me to The Pioneer Woman, over 7 years ago.  They are my perfect food.

I made a veggie tray, cheese slaw, spinach dip, and the feta/black eyed pea dip.  I took a few picts hoping to update some of my old recipe posts but my photos still aren't quite the look I'm going for.  I really think I'm going to have to take a photography class.

I am, however, REALLY enjoying another digital scrapbooking class.  It's 31 Things, taught by Ali Edwards, and I want to post some of my pages.  They are very personal with a lot of journaling, so I will have to wrap my brain around that first.
